The qualification encompasses key subjects such as principles of basic first aid, assessing and managing incidents, recognition of an emergency, activation of emergency medical services (EMS), assessment of the casualty, first aid to un-responsive casualty, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), post-resuscitation care, choking, wounds and bleeding, burns, communication skills, teamwork and leadership.
