This qualification is designed for those individuals who may be designated as workplace first aiders or who need to have a more comprehensive understanding of emergency first aid procedures. The target audience for this course may include:
Expect to dedicate approximately 16 hours of study to achieve this qualification.
Topics covered include the role and responsibilities of a first-aider, assessing an incident, unresponsive casualties (breathing and not breathing), choking, shock and minor injuries. The qualification encompasses key subjects such as principles of basic first aid, assessing and managing incidents, recognition of an emergency, activation of emergency medical services (EMS), assessment of the casualty, first aid to un-responsive casualty, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), post-resuscitation care, choking, shock and minor injuries.
The assessment for this qualification is conducted through a multiple-choice examination and practical demonstration.
